Message In The Storm
Psalm 62:1-8
In Psalm 62, David provides a model of how to wait upon the Lord. David likely wrote this psalm during the years he ran and hid from King Saul, his archenemy. Despite the long wait that brought solitude, monotony, and fury, David never forgot the anchor of his soul.
“My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation.” Do not confuse waiting on the Lord in silence as passivity. Such a wait requires faith, patience, constant prayer, discipline, and an expectancy that God will answer as He has promised. It requires much more strength and stamina to wait upon God than to scurry about seeking your own answers.
Notice how many times David invokes the word only in reference to God. David was adamant in waiting for God only, and only God was his Rock and Salvation. Well-meaning believers often worsen the storm around them when they seek their own remedy or follow advice that is well-intentioned but often off the mark.
Endeavor to wait in silence before the Lord. What you implicitly are saying is, “Lord, I trust You to handle this in Your perfect way. You know my every need and my every fear, and I trust that whatever You decide – and whenever You decide it – is best.” That is the kind of silence that speaks volumes.
