Reasons for Believing in Eternal Security
Colossians 1:13-14
Yesterday we learned that our salvation is secure because 1) God elected us, 2) Christ’s work of salvation is complete, and 3) it is not by our effort, but by grace. Scripture gives us several other reasons.
Reason #4 – The Nature of Salvation. Our redemption is a gift from God. (John 3:16) In addition, all the work is God’s doing: He forgives, He delivers, and He brings us home to heaven. (2 Timothy 4:18) His work is everlasting.
Reason #5 – The Promises of God. Our Father promises that the life He gives us is eternal and that no one can take us from Him. (John 10:28). He also vows that He has begun a good work in us – spiritual transformation into Christ’s likeness-and He will complete it. (Philippians 1:6)
Reason #6 – Our Union with Christ. When God adopts us as His children, we are born of Him and placed in union with Christ. (John 1:12-13) Jesus Himself has declared He will never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) He will even seat us in the heavenlies with Him. (Ephesians 2:6)
Reason #7 – The Eternal Work of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God sealed us at salvation, and His work lasts forever. (Ephesians 1:13-14) Through Him, the Father has promised that we are eternally secure. The presence of the Spirit permanently marks us as one of God’s children.
Are you convinced yet of the permanency of your position? The Father has adopted you, the Son has united with you and the Spirit has sealed you as God’s child. We belong to our Triune God forever. Hallelujah!
