The Spirit that Conquers
Philippians 3:7-10
If you were to take a road trip, would you just hop in your car one morning with no idea where you’re going and then magically arrive at the right destination at the right time? No way! Instead, you would need a plan – some guide that shows where you want to go. If we do this with our vacation plans, we should be even more diligent to do the same thing with our lives.
How can you expect to get to where God wants you to be if you never stop to set clear, measurable goals for your life? Without these determined directional markers, there is no way to keep your life on course – you will just be adrift from one experience to another, with no consistency or coherence. That is certainly not the rich, purposeful, abundant life that God desires for you.
Many people fear goal setting because the act of establishing and working toward goals requires change. Very rarely will God reveal a goal that does not require some degree of growth on your part. However, these opportunities for growth are His way of moving His children forward. And if you are not progressing in your walk with the Lord, then you can be sure that you are slipping backward.
God doesn’t want you falling back or losing ground in your walk with Him. His best is never behind you, but rather ahead. Even the apostle Paul pressed forward to attain what he called “the prize” (Philippians 3:14). Like Paul, we must continually progress by asking God where He wants us to be and then directing our lives to that end.
