Do Fathers Really Matter?
1 Timothy 5:8
All around us is evidence that home life is spiraling downward. There are probably a number of reasons for this forty-year trend, but many households suffer as the result of an irresponsible father refusing to assume the godly position he’s been given.
Scripture clearly teaches that god has singled out the man to be in charge of the family unit. (Genesis 3:16) the Lord loves both man and woman equally, but He gave to man the task of heading the family. Even when a father does not live up to expectations, he is still the leader because God does not change His mind.
A father’s responsibility can be summarized in one word: provision. He is to see to the physical needs of his household. Even more importantly, he provides for emotional needs. Some dads cannot give their families luxury cars or fancy houses. But every dad can share his time and love, which works to build the self-esteem of his children. Any child would choose a daddy’s love, understanding, and support in preference to a house.
Of course, dads are spiritually accountable too. It is primarily a man’s job to teach children to read the Bible and pray. A father must choose for his household a church that proclaims biblical principles. The responsibility for spiritual growth cannot be delegated to even the most godly wife – God does not accept that excuse.
To aid with living a godly life, the Lord gives the Holy Spirit to every believer-this includes dads bearing the burden of their responsibility. Fathers, the Holy Spirit will enable you to be a godly leader.
